Well I am a lunch regular at the Venice. I usually eat there at least once a week. They have a $5 lunch menu, daily specials, and the regular menu. I usually get the special or one of their Italian entrees. Good food, good service, and good price. The restaurant sits near the road and sits lower than the road.

F*ck the Venice! Sorry to be vulgar but I have never had worse service and food then I did here. We visited the restaurant because we heard it was an undiscovered delicious Italian restaurant! Bull crap! I ordered the stuffed shells when they FINALLY brought it to the table my first bite was still frozen (def not made fresh) I sent it back and my husband and friends waited to eat until I got my food to eat. 15 min later I get the same plate back with my one bite eaten out of it. So I try another couple bites still frozen! We get upset and send it back along with my friends food since their food was getting cold. 20 min later got the same dish back still frozen in the center but my friends all got fresh new meals. I asked to speak to the manager who made me wait 15 min again. Needless to say by the time the manager got there I was so pissed I told her off and we all left the restaurant food untouched. Terrible terrible!!!!

***This review is based ONLY on their GERMAN NIGHT (every 3rd Friday each month*** Not the best german food you'll ever eat, but hits the spot in a city that lacks ANY german restaurants. THEEE place to go when you're looking for a little bit of cultural kitsch: comes complete with an accordion sing-a-long by a man in liederhosen. I loved it. Sadly, hardly more than six people were there at a time. The best part for me was that the dishes come with kartoffelknudel (potato dumpling) which is VERY VERY hard to find at a lot of German restaurants that I am familiar with. The weirdness was that The Venice is an Italian joint that was decorated (to the nines) in St. Patrick's day green shamrocks, serving German food. That pretty much covered my culture for the week. ;-) PLEASE go to have fun---the beer is cold, the sing-a-long is funny and the potato dumpling is a big chewy ball of goodness.

The Venice is one of those unique places that surprises you as soon as it's discovered. At a friend's suggestion, my fiance and I ordered a pizza for carry out. Mushrooms and pepperoni, a classic. What makes a good pizza? In my mind, it's the crust and toppings. Both fantastic. The crust is thin but not too crispy. The toppings are classic, a nostalgic flavor that none of the large chains can duplicate, but one that they wish they could. What makes a great pizza? Garlic, long forgotten, and severely missed. Most pizza places seem to be afraid of it, seen as archaic perhaps. After a few bites of a slice from the Venice, you'll wonder why garlic ever became shunned, only to be parsed out as a novelty at best. It just works, doesn't overpower, and tastes amazing. They offer a full menu that includes a decent dessert and wine list. They have Karaoke on Saturday evenings. Every 3rd Friday of the month they have German night, which looks to be somewhat fun if that's your thing. They also have great lunch specials; Classic items for five dollars each. The servers were very friendly and my glass never went dry. What makes this place great is the warmth and comfort that can only be established by surviving the tides of change throughout the decades. The decor is a testament to it's age. A fusion of 1950's restaurant and late 70's/early 80's updates. There are two spacious dining areas and a bar room where regulars are friendly and joyous. The surrounding area is testament to the high tide that hit that area of Goshen, only to wash back into the city for newer development. The now vacant bowling alley serves best as an overflow parking lot. The once busy strip mall nearby is now a low rent commercial district that houses two dollar stores. And yet, that nostalgia glows through that area, and I'm willing to bet that The Venice is the heart of that illumination.

Took my wife here on our first date, but we went back and were disappointed to find the building is quite dilapidated and in need of a lot of repair. They still have good food, it is a shame that the building is falling apart.

Our party just finished dinner at The Venice on their monthly German night (third Friday of the month). What an experience! This is the kind of hole-in-the-wall place that just oozes the kind of character that franchise chains try so hard to fake. Idiosyncrasies abound, from the mish-mash of Midwestern kitsch to Mediterranean themed wall murals that adorn the building to the good pasta and German cuisine to the bullet-proof cannoli. You kind of feel out of place if you aren't a regular. We got some dirty looks from another patron, but the jolly, old German fellow that took requests and played German drinking songs on his accordion more than made up for it. Our service was pretty much abysmal, which took me by surprise (was it because we aren't regulars or because we asked how they serve a pitcher of Black and Tan--which was on the beer menu?). Our orders were each incomplete and poorly-timed. Plates were cleared by an apologetic hostess rather than the server when the server went AWOL. When the bill arrived, prices didn't match the menu (easily corrected at the register). Definitely sub-standard service, even for a greasy spoon... with the major caveat that it was entirely our server. Your results may vary (and I expect they will). All that said, you owe it to yourself to experience The Venice at least once. And German night is highly recommended. The service (which may be a fluke) we got was one or zero star-worthy. The food was three or four star-worthy. But the overall experience and uniqueness of the place was five stars. I'm giving it a four star average and not weighting the poor service too heavily. We paid $42 for a couple, including two dinners, two desserts, and an import draught (not including tip).
